Our new Church Hall
After over 3 years of planning and fundraising, the new Church Hall at the Church of King Charles the Martyr, Mutton Lane opened for business on 1 September 2003. Replacing a well used Hall built in the 1950’s, the new Hall complex (designed by John McCall and built by Norris Ltd of Hertford) boasts two Halls, kitchen and office on the ground floor and two large meeting rooms and a lounge on the first floor – and the whole complex is now linked into the Church, which it matches in a remarkable way.

The whole project has cost nearly £530,000 and opened virtually debt free. This has been due to some extremely solid and patient fund-raising by the hard working members of the Church since the Appeal was launched in September 2000 – together with charitable and individual donations, a generous legacy, and the sale of some land on which the new Vicarage will be sited. The Anglican Diocese of St Albans has also been generous in its support of the project. In addition, many members of the public have purchased bricks for use in the building and the names of all donors will be displayed.
Enquiries from potential hirers will be welcome by phoning the Parish Office on 01707 665579. The Hall complex is suitable for a wide variety of uses, although there will be restrictions on its use in some instances due to the residential nature of the surrounding area. The Church members hope that many will come to use and enjoy these new community facilities, which seek to complement other premises which are currently available for hire in Potters Bar.
On Saturday 4 October 2004 at 2.00pm, the new Hall will be officially dedicated by the Bishop of Hertford and opened by the new Marquess of Salisbury, a service to which all are welcome. In addition there will be an Open Day on Saturday 11 October from 10am – 4pm, to which all are, again, welcome.
