King Charles the Martyr Church Home
In Christian Marriage, two people agree to share life, love and commitment in the sight of God, with the intention that their union shall be life long. Marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children.
For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses.

We are delighted that you are thinking about being married in King Charles the Martyr Church, Potters Bar.

Weddings

Can we get married at King Charles the Martyr?

For many years, you could only get married at King Charles the Martyr Church (KCM) if you lived in the parish. Now, provided one of you can show a “Qualifying Connection” with the parish (see below), you may be married here.

One of you needs to be able to show that:

you were baptised at KCM or

you were prepared for Confirmation by KCM, or

you have lived in the parish of KCM for at least six months*, or

you have regularly worshipped at KCM for at least six months, or

since you were born, one of your parents has lived in the parish of KCM for at least six months, or

since you were born, one of your parents has regularly worshiped at KCM for at least six months, or

one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish

If none of the above applies to you, please get in touch so that we can explore possibilities with you.

* If you do not know whether or not you live within the Parish boundary, please contact the Priest –in-Charge or visit www.achurchnearyou.com.
What if I've been married before?

It is the policy at KCM sympathetically to consider the possibility of re-marriage following divorce. If you have any concerns about whether you can be married at KCM, please contact the Priest-in-Charge.

We're getting married abroad or in a registry office but would like a church blessing.

There is a service of prayer and dedication which is suitable for such events. It may also be appropriate following a civil marriage ceremony.

The first thing that you should do is to phone the Priest-in-Charge, the Reverend Michael Burns on 01707 661266. He will make a time to talk with you.
