Easter 2006

HOLY WEEK is, and always has been, the most important week of the year for Christians.  For many, it is seen as a Pilgrimage which we walk with Christ.

It may seem to you that there are a lot of services, but Holy Week is the most important festival to observe, so please plan carefully how you will spend the week and try to come to a least one of the services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.  It is very important to realise that we can only truly celebrate our Lord’s resurrection on Easter Day if we have also walked and suffered with him during Holy Week.  Holy Week asks the vital question to which Easter is the only answer

PALM SUNDAY , 9 April

On this day, we celebrate the triumphal entry Jesus made into Jerusalem.  We carry palms and walk in procession.  The celebration is full of hope and joy – but the mood is short-lived, for Palm Sunday foreshadows the suffering and humiliation. So the reading of our Lord’s Passion stands by itself, with no sermon needed.

EASTER EVE 15 April

8.00 pm  A Service of Light, Music, Words and the Renewal of Baptismal Vows

This Service anticipates the joy to be found on Easter Day.  First, a new light is lit, symbolising God’s light.

This light, the Paschal Candle, is carried into the darkened Church. Then we hear, through Bible readings, the story of how God has always been caring for and leading his people.  Then we all renew our baptismal vows – our statement of faith in the risen Christ.  The service ends quietly, yet with a sense of hope, as we go home to await …….
